Community Impact

Built with the community, for the community

The Qikiqtarjuaq Deep Sea Port will improve daily life in tangible ways. Community priorities are central to the project’s design and delivery.

The community is in a uniquely strategic position in the eastern Arctic. For the community of Qikiqtarjuaq, the port represents lasting local benefits, including increased employment, skills development, safer marine access, improved resupply reliability, and long-term economic opportunities anchored in Inuit ownership and governance. Project planning continues to prioritize community safety, local participation, and alignment with Inuit rights and decision-making authority. For Nunavut, the project affirms what Inuit have always known: Inuit are the permanent stewards of the Arctic and play a central role in safeguarding Canada’s northern waters, strengthening national security through lived presence, local knowledge, and Inuit-led infrastructure.
